Samsung Debuts Mobile Phone with AMOLED Display in Korea
December 07, 2007
On December 6, Samsung announced the launch of a new mobile phone equipped with an AMOLED (Active Matrix-based Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display in Korea.

Codenamed SPH-W2400, the new product is priced at approximately 500,000 Won (US$536.8; US$1 = 931.5 Won), according to Maeil Business Newspaper of Korea. The initial shipment volume is estimated at only 1,000 units and solely for Korea.

Sporting an AMOLED display panel, Samsung's new mobile phone is expected to enable much sharper images in comparison with traditional products using TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) technology. In addition, the new mobile phone is backlighting-free, more light-weighted, and less costly to produce.
